Tamil Nadu To Get Free LPG Cylinders & Bus Travel: CM Vijay
According to India Today, under the new ‘Annapoorani Super Six’ scheme, eligible families will receive the cost of three LPG cylinders every year, with the amount being directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The scheme will be rolled out from Pongal 2027 and is expected to benefit around 1.3 crore families. Families with an annual income of up to ₹2.5 lakh are among those covered under the scheme, which is estimated to cost the state around ₹4,000 crore annually.
And that’s not all! Vijay has also announced an expansion of the state’s free bus travel scheme for women. Women will now be able to travel for free on Express, LSS and Deluxe government buses, including inter-district services. Unlike the earlier scheme, the expanded benefit will not come with an income ceiling or a limit on the number of trips, according to Vijay.

Free Bus Travel For Transgenders
As per reports, the free travel benefit will also be extended to transgender persons, giving them access to fare-free travel on government buses. The move comes as part of a wider set of welfare announcements aimed at easing the financial burden on families and improving access to public transport.
CM Vijay said the LPG scheme was being introduced against the backdrop of rising cooking gas prices and supply disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict situation in the Gulf, which he said had added to the financial burden on households.
