The government has now decided to promote a wide range of niche tourism segments across these union territories to boost the local economy and showcase the unique offerings of these places.

Before we get into details, let us tell you what niche tourism is. This is specialised travel tailored to specific interests. Unlike mass tourism, these are experiences that cater to smaller groups. It could be scuba diving, astro tourism, wellness tourism, and more. To promote niche tourism, the government has now decided to actively support these activities.
According to The Economic Times, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai has stated that the government is now encouraging various new types of tourism. These include astro tourism, eco tourism, nature/biodiversity tourism, heritage/cultural tourism, and wellness tourism. Adventure, cruise, and rural tourism segments are also being promoted.

Unique Experiences In Union Territories
Niche tourism is being promoted in the union territories of India to showcase their unique offerings. It also helps these UTs make a mark on the global tourism map. The government has already taken several initiatives to promote niche activities. These include setting up India’s first Dark Sky Reserve at Hanle, developing seafronts and natural trails in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu.
Moreover, the government has introduced the Barren Island cruise in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, offering tourists a view of India’s only active volcano. Sporting events like the Frozen Marathon at Pangong Lake, ice hockey and ice climbing events also happen in Ladakh.
