During Ganesh Chaturthi, travel demand rises across Maharashtra. Many people head towards the Konkan to celebrate the festival with their families. This year, to meet the huge travel demand, special trains and buses have been added to the route. Read on to know more!
Special Trains Added For Ganesh Chaturthi
To meet the huge Ganesh Chaturthi travel demand, the railways have added 386 special trains. As per Hindustan Times report, more than 2.5 lakh passengers have already booked their tickets, whereas 1 lakh passengers are expected to travel on unreserved services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Sawantwadi.
Out of the 386 trains, 258 trains are being run by Central Railway (CR), 64 by Western Railway and 58 by Konkan Railway. South Central Railway has also introduced six special trains. During the festival, heavy rush is often seen at platforms like Dadar, CSMT, Thane and Panvel. Along with running special trains, the railways are also working on crowd management. The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police are working together to ensure smooth crowd movement.

New Bus Services From Mumbai
Not only trains, but passengers are also travelling by bus, so the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided to add more services. According to Hindustan Times report, the 5,743 special buses started operating on September 10 and will continue till September 14. These buses will run from Mumbai, Palghar and other divisions to Konkan and other parts of Maharashtra.
The highest number of buses operated on September 11, with 3,028 services, followed by 2,425 services on September 12. With these services, the railway and transport authorities are helping people travel to their hometowns during the festival without getting stranded.
