The Karnataka government is now considering a proposal to launch a cruise service between Mangaluru and Goa to boost coastal tourism in the state and make the journey a lot more scenic for travellers. Not just that, but Kerala-style houseboats along the coastline may soon be introduced too. Here’s what we know so far.

Mangaluru-Goa Cruise May Soon Become A Reality

Imagine travelling to Goa from Mangaluru on a cruise! Sounds exciting, right? According to Deccan Herald, the Karnataka government is planning exactly that. The initiative aims to boost coastal tourism in the state by attracting more travellers.

The Mangaluru to Goa cruise will have stops at various destinations along the coast. Ships that are being built at local shipyards could be utilised for this service. If the cruise becomes a reality, passengers on the ship would get a view of the Arabian Sea and the breathtaking Western Ghats from the water.

And honestly, who wouldn’t want that? The initiative could also help boost local hospitality and employment in the coastal transport industry of the state.

Kerala-Style Houseboats Coming Soon In Karnataka?

According to Deccan Herald, the Tourism Department of Karnataka is also planning to introduce Kerala-style houseboats along the coastline. This will help boost wellness and beach tourism in the state. Houseboats in Kerala are a massive hit because they offer a slow and relaxing way to see the water world. Tourists float on houseboats across lakes, rivers and canals surrounded by coconut trees.

If similar houseboats are introduced in Karnataka’s coastal areas, like the backwaters of Mangaluru and Udupi, they could definitely boost tourism. Many domestic and international travellers may spend longer in Karnataka. It could also create employment opportunities for local businesses.
