A ticket checker at Tambaram Railway Station in Chennai showed exemplary devotion to duty and passenger safety when he saved a lady passenger who accidentally slipped while boarding a train. Incidents like these once again prove that timely action and presence of mind can save lives. Here’s what happened.

Passenger Slips While Boarding Train At Tambaram Railway Station 


Accidents at railway stations are not unheard of. Many passengers still board or get off moving trains, which can sometimes turn fatal. At times, passengers also slip while boarding, leading to serious injuries. A similar incident took place at Tambaram Railway Station in Chennai, which falls under the Chennai railway division of the Southern Railway zone. On December 20, 2025, a lady passenger accidentally slipped while boarding a beach-bound train.

A major tragedy was avoided thanks to the swift action of Shri Nithish Kumar, a ticket-checking staff member at the station. A video shared by the official X handle of Southern Railway shows him running alongside the train and pulling the passenger to safety just in time. The caption under the post read, “Swift alertness by Shri Nithish Kumar, Ticket Checking Staff (CCTC/TBM), at Tambaram on 20.12.2025, saved a lady passenger who accidentally slipped while boarding a Beach-bound train. His timely action and presence of mind averted a serious accident, reflecting exemplary devotion to duty and commitment to passenger safety.”

Nithish Kumar noticed the woman losing her balance and reacted immediately, without hesitation. He is undoubtedly a real-life hero! Netizens on X also appreciated his alertness and dedication. 

One user wrote, “Must appreciate the work of the Railway staff. It is high time Railways introduce automatic door closing to avoid such incidents,” while another commented, “Hats off.” Several others also pointed out the need for automatic closing doors in trains across India to prevent such accidents, which are becoming increasingly common.
