Monsoons in Mumbai are beautiful, but they can also be dangerous due to issues such as falling trees and open manholes. Keeping these concerns in mind, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a dedicated WhatsApp chatbot that allows residents to report open, broken, or missing manhole covers across the city. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

BMC Launches WhatsApp Chatbot To Report Manhole Issues

To improve public safety and strengthen civic grievance redressal in the city, the BMC has launched a WhatsApp chatbot where Mumbai residents can report open, damaged or missing manhole covers across the city. The initiative has been introduced by the BMC to streamline complaint registration and facilitate a quicker response from civic authorities.

To register a complaint, residents simply need to send a photo of the manhole along with its location via WhatsApp. Once the complaint is submitted, the chatbot generates a unique complaint number, allowing users to track its status until the issue is resolved.

According to Mumbai Live, the initiative comes after the BMC faced widespread criticism following the tragic death of a 55-year-old daily wage labourer, who fell into an open sewage manhole in Sakinaka on July 2.

Here’s How To Use It

Here’s how you can report a hazardous manhole cover via BMC’s WhatsApp chatbot:

1. Save the BMC WhatsApp number 9324500600 and initiate a chat.
2. Select the ‘Submit Complaint’ option.
3. Share the exact location of the hazardous manhole cover.
4. Upload a clear photograph of the open, damaged, or missing manhole cover.
5. Submit the complaint.

Once submitted, you’ll receive a unique complaint registration number to track the status of your complaint and follow up until it is resolved.

Besides the WhatsApp chatbot, Mumbaikars can also use BMC’s MyBMC Marg mobile application to file a complaint about missing or damaged manholes.
