Iceland Is Now Offering Permanent Residency For ₹12,000

Iceland has rolled out an exciting opportunity for those dreaming of calling the Land of Fire and Ice their home. They are offering permanent residence permits (PR) to individuals, including Indians, after a few years of continuous stay. According to NDTV, Indians will now be able to get permanent residency in Iceland with an application fee under ₹12,000. When you get a PR, you can live in the country indefinitely without needing to renew short-term permits.
Eligibility to apply for Iceland permanent residency –
1. To apply for PR, an individual should have a valid residence permit and must have lived in Iceland continuously for at least 4 years (spouses of Icelandic citizens may qualify after 3 years).
2. Have successfully completed an Icelandic language course of at least 150 lessons or have passed an Icelandic language proficiency test.
3. Individuals with a minimum income are about ISK 247,572 (₹1,79,089 approx) per month, and married couples with a minimum income of ISK 396,115 (₹2,86,543 approx).
4. They should not have lived outside Iceland for more than 90 days in total per year during the residence period.
5. Have no criminal record, and should maintain valid residence permits and renew them properly before expiry.

If you’re planning to apply for permanent residency in Iceland, then here’s a list of required documents –
1. Permanent residence application form (D-200).
2. Valid passport and copies of data/signature pages.
3. Certificate proving completion of an Icelandic language course.
4. Proof of financial means.
5. Certificate declaring no criminal record.
6. Health insurance or proof of insurance coverage.
7. Recent passport-sized photographs.
8. Students may need to present a university admission letter.
9. Employees may need to show a work contract with an Icelandic employer.
Here’s how you can apply for a PR in Iceland –
1. Check and confirm your eligibility for permanent residency in Iceland.
2. Complete an Icelandic language course/pass a language proficiency test.
3. Compile all the aforementioned documents.
4. Apply online via the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration’s website with an electronic certificate.
5. You will be required to pay the application fee online while submitting the form. The basic application fee is 16,000 ISK (₹11,574 approx).
6. Wait for the decision while maintaining a valid residence permit.
