India Drops From 10 To 23 In Global Climate Change Performance Index; Here’s All About It

Global Climate Change Performance Index

India has slipped 13 places in the latest Global Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI). The report evaluates how nations across the globe are tackling emissions, renewable energy, and climate policy, and this year’s rankings highlight significant shifts worldwide. Here’s all you need to know about this.

India On The Global Climate Change Performance Index

According to NDTV, India has fallen from 10th to the 23rd position on the Global Climate Change Performance Index 2026. The CCPI is a yearly independent index that tracks how well 63 countries and the European Union are doing in their climate-mitigation efforts.

The index, jointly published and released by Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute and Climate Action Network, was shared at the ongoing UN COP30 Climate Summit on Tuesday. India’s fall on the index points to mounting concerns over emissions and limited progress in renewable energy, primarily driven by the lack of a defined coal phase-out deadline. India scored 61.31 on the CCPI 2026. The report showed India among the biggest producers of oil, gas and coal worldwide.

At fourth place, Denmark scored the highest spot on the list, with a score of 80.52 points. It is to be noted that the top three positions on the index remain vacant, just like in previous years, because no country achieved a ‘very high’ rating or a perfect score.
