Major disruption in air travel across Asia resulted in the cancellation of approximately 67 flights and around 1,470 delays, leaving thousands of passengers stranded across multiple countries. Read on to know more about it.

Asia Air Flight Disruption Chaos

As per reports by News18, the disruption affected multiple countries, including Thailand, the UAE, Japan, Indonesia, and Singapore, as airports struggled to handle large passenger volumes and operational challenges. As per the data from April 12, it indicates a much wider scale of disruption during the 4th day, with approximately 445 cancellations and 3,839 delays recorded across a larger stretch from Northeast Asia to the Gulf, including China and Saudi Arabia. The major delay and situation led to overcrowded terminals and major schedule disruptions. Additionally, several major airports faced intense pressure, with Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport reporting the highest number of delays at 216, along with 13 cancellations, followed by Bangkok Airport, which faced 199 delays.

Airports & Airlines Face Major Cancellations

Several major airports faced intense pressure. Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport reported the highest number of delays at 216, along with 13 cancellations, followed by Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport with 199 delays. The Tokyo Airport in Japan also saw 182 delays, while Narita recorded 90 delays and 10 cancellations.

As per the news portal, in India, too, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport faced around 176 delays, while Mumbai and Bengaluru also experienced major disruptions due to high domestic traffic. The most affected airlines included SpiceJet, Batik Air, China Eastern Airlines, and ANA Wings. Batik Air and United Airlines reported the highest cancellations at 10 each, while IndiGo recorded 93 delays and Air India reported 4 cancellations and 74 delays. Nippon Airways also witnessed around 75 major delays, mainly operations linked to Tokyo.

Major cities, including Delhi, Dubai, Bangkok, Mumbai and others, faced heavy operational strain, with Jakarta and Bangkok recording the most delays. The main cause of disruptions was driven by high air traffic, operational constraints and pressure on major hub airports.
