The monsoon is still wreaking havoc in many cities across India. An intense spell of rain struck Chennai on Saturday, while a cloudburst was reported in the city’s Manali area. Not just that, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecast widespread rainfall across India with heavy showers expected in Uttarakhand, Himachal, Punjab, and more. Delhi-NCR might also witness cloudy skies with moderate rain. Here are the latest weather updates in India.

A cloudburst hit Chennai on Saturday night. Multiple locations in the district reported heavy rainfall, with more than 200 mm recorded in just a few hours. IMD has now issued a red alert in Chennai’s Manali town and Wimco Nagar area. As per a report by Hindustan Times, several flights from Bengaluru, Delhi, France, and Mangaluru arriving in Chennai were diverted to Bengaluru due to heavy rainfall in the early hours of Sunday. Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, also confirmed the news on their X account.

Punjab is also battling the worst floods since 1988, with crops on 3 lakh acres of farmland already damaged. The Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers are in spate following heavy rainfall. Overflowing water has caused widespread destruction in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Kapurthala districts. According to The Times of India, the Army, Air Force, BSF, NDRF, SDRF, and Punjab Police are currently deployed to carry out flood relief and evacuation. X user, @ManmohitSandhu, also uploaded visuals of the ongoing floods in several North Indian regions.

Rain Forecast For Delhi, Himachal, And More States
Apart from Chennai and Punjab, IMD has stated that the residents of the national capital are also expected to witness cloudy skies and moderate rainfall over the next few days. As per a report by Krishi Jagran, isolated heavy showers are expected over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh, along with thunderstorms and lightning.
Mumbaikars can also expect a typical monsoon day today with intermittent rain and high humidity for August 31. Apart from this, several districts, including Agra, Firozabad, Bijnor, and Moradabad, are likely to receive light rain.

The weather department has advised residents of these cities to remain cautious. Unnecessary travel is advised to be avoided, especially in areas already affected by flood-like conditions. Stay safe and alert.
