Around 245 Trains Cancelled In Delhi Amid CJP Protest
According to The Indian Express, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, told the portal that around 40 terminating Mail and Express trains and 35 outgoing services were cancelled because incoming train rakes were unavailable. This brought the number of affected Mail and Express services to around 75.
The decision follows reports that around 5,000 passengers missed their trains on Thursday amid heavy crowds and road blockades linked to the protest. The Railways has taken precautionary measures to minimise inconvenience to passengers travelling through the two major stations.
According to the Ministry of Railways, intelligence inputs and traffic advisories indicated severe road congestion around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10. As a result, the Ministry cancelled Mail and Express trains scheduled to depart their originating stations after 2 pm on October 9 and arrive at either station during the affected window.
