Indian Railways To Run 138 Special Trains With 650 Trips To Manage Christmas & New Year’s Rush

Christmas and New Year are approaching, and railway stations are expected to see a heavy rush. Many people will be travelling to their hometowns or heading out for holidays. To ease congestion and manage the festive crowd, Indian Railways has announced that it will run 138 additional trains across the country. Here’s everything you need to know.

Indian Railways Announces 138 Special Trains

According to a report by News18, the Ministry of Railways has announced that 138 special trains have been planned for the Christmas and New Year season. These trains will operate across nine railway zones. In total, 650 trips have been approved, of which 244 trips have already been notified. These special services aim to manage the expected surge in passengers in the coming days.

Among all zones, Western Railway (WR) has the highest share. It will run 26 special trains with 226 approved trips, of which 72 trips have already been notified. Central Railway (CR) will operate 18 trains with 118 approved trips, including 76 notified trips. South Central Railway (SCR) will run 26 trains with 34 approved trips, including 26 notified trips.

Festive Travel Made Easier

According to a report by News18, South East Central Railway (SECR) will operate 12 special trains with 82 approved trips, including 24 notified trips. South Western Railway (SWR) has planned 20 trains with 42 approved trips, including 28 notified trips. North Western Railway (NWR) will run 14 trains with 72 approved trips, of which six trips have been notified.

Northern Railway (NR) has planned 18 trains with 66 approved trips, including eight notified trips. North Eastern Railway (NER) will operate two trains with six approved trips, with no trips notified yet. North East Frontier Railway (NFR) has planned two trains with four approved and notified trips. 

The announcement of these special trains is likely to bring relief to many travellers planning to visit their hometowns or head out for holidays. Railway stations are expected to see a heavy rush, and it looks like Indian Railways is prepared to handle it.
