India’s first bullet train will run its inaugural journey between Surat and Vapi in August 2027. It will operate on a 100 km stretch compared to the earlier plan of 50 km. The much-anticipated Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is under construction, and this announcement of the first run has made many Indians happy and proud. Here’s more on it.
India’s First Bullet Train Inaugural Run Expanded From 50 Km To 100 Km
The inaugural run between Surat and Vapi will cover an initial stretch of 100 km. It will be gradually expanded to the full 508 km route once the high-speed rail corridor between Sabarmati (Ahmedabad) and Mumbai is complete. Earlier, the inaugural plan was set for a 50 km stretch between Surat and Billimora within the same timeline. But now, the authorities have changed the plan, and the train will cover 100 km between Surat and Vapi in 2027.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told The New Indian Express that the bullet train will cover the distance between Ahmedabad and Mumbai in just 1 hour and 58 minutes with four stops. If the train halts at all 12 stations, the total journey time will be 2 hours and 17 minutes. And honestly, this is an amazing milestone for Indian Railways.
Entire Project To Be Ready By 2029
Once the 508 km corridor is complete, the bullet train will run at speed of up to 320 kmph. The whole corridor is expected to be ready by December 2029. According to a report by India.com, the foundation stone for India’s first bullet train was laid in 2017. The entire project was expected to be completed by December 2023. However, issues like land acquisition and several other issues delayed the project significantly.
The bullet train will use Shinkansen technology from Japan. It’s not just advanced but also suitable for India. Reportedly, the bullet train project has not been easy. Authorities have faced numerous challenges, but now the train is almost becoming a reality, and this is such a proud moment for the whole country.
