IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Hyderabad After Power Bank Catches Fire Mid-Air

Fire Breaks Out In Chennai-Bound IndiGo Flight

On Sunday, October 11, IndiGo flight 6E6115 from Delhi to Chennai caused panic among passengers after a fire broke out on board. The flight was scheduled to depart at 1:10 PM but took off at 1:30 PM. It was expected to land in Chennai at 4 PM but had to divert to Hyderabad airport.

According to an NDTV report, a fire broke out in the overhead luggage compartment due to a malfunctioning passenger’s power bank. As the fire spread, passengers tried to put out the flames. In a video of the incident, people can be heard screaming as they attempt to control the fire. Soon, the cabin crew acted quickly and used fire extinguishers to put it out. The aircraft then landed safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. Fortunately, no one on the flight was harmed.

Alternate Flight For Passengers

Confirming the incident, IndiGo revealed that the fire broke out due to a passenger’s electronic device kept in luggage compartment. According to NDTV report, the airline also expressed regret over the disruption but said that passenger safety remains its top priority. Soon after the flight landed in Hyderabad, the airline arranged another aircraft for the passengers.

While the alternate aircraft was being prepared, the airline served refreshments to the passengers. This incident highlights how electronic devices can sometimes cause serious situations and cause panic among the passengers.
