IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing

On Saturday morning, March 28, 2026, an IndiGo flight travelling from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to Delhi made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport. According to NDTV, there were a total of 161 passengers on the flight. This emergency landing was made after the pilot detected a technical problem. The situation led authorities to declare a full emergency at the airport as a precaution. Emergency teams were immediately put on alert.

The aircraft landed safely without any damage. All passengers were evacuated without any injuries. Officials confirmed that everyone on board was safe. Fire services received the emergency alert at around 10:54 AM. Soon after, multiple fire tenders were rushed to the airport to stay prepared for any situation. This flight, identified as 6E 579, was a Boeing 737 aircraft. 

The airline later clarified that the aircraft was not originally part of its main fleet. It had been wet-leased from a Turkish carrier, Corendon Airlines, for short-term use. IndiGo currently operates five such leased aircraft.

Undergoing Necessary Security Checks

Responding to the emergency landing, the IndiGo team said that the aircraft is undergoing necessary checks and maintenance. The airlines released a statement that says, ““A technical snag was detected shortly before landing on IndiGo flight 6E 579 operating from Visakhapatnam to Delhi on 28 March 2026. As a precautionary step and in accordance with the standard operating procedure, the pilots requested priority landing, and the aircraft arrived safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. All relevant authorities were promptly informed, and the aircraft is undergoing necessary checks and maintenance. At IndiGo, the safety of our customers and crew is our top priority. – IndiGo Spokesperson.”

According to the airline, the technical snag was noticed shortly before landing. The pilots acted quickly and followed standard safety procedures.
