Indravati Tiger Reserve To Reopen For Tourists After 40 Years

Indravati Tiger Reserve is one of Chhattisgarh’s most remote and least-explored forests, and it is reopening for tourists after four decades on November 1, 2026. According to Hindustan Times, the jungle is spread across 2,799.07 sq km in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh and is considered one of the largest tiger reserves in Central India. Its core tiger habitat covers 1,258.37 sq km, while its buffer area covers 1,540.70 sq km.

Reportedly, the reserve was established under Project Tiger in 1983. But large parts of the reserve were inaccessible to tourists and the Forest Department. However, following improvements in security and increased patrolling, the authorities have decided to reopen the reserve. Safari vehicles are being purchased, and routes for jungle safaris are also being prepared.

Indravati Tiger Reserve is home to animals like wild water buffaloes, Asian elephants, blackbucks, sambars and more.
