Located in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, Kainchi Dham is a famous temple and ashram dedicated to Neem Karoli Baba. The ashram has recently become very popular due to social media trends. The sudden rush of devotees has caused massive traffic jams and blocked highways along the route. Keeping this in mind, the Uttarakhand government is planning alternative routes and mandatory pre-registration to prevent overcrowding at this spiritual place.
Alternative Routes Planned For Kainchi Dham In Uttarakhand
The box-office success of the movie ‘Hanuman Ansh’, based on the life and miracles of Neem Karoli Baba, led to a massive rush at Kainchi Dham Temple in Uttarakhand. More than 35,000 to 50,000 devotees visited the temple over a single weekend in September, leading to overcrowding, heavy traffic jams, and even blocked highways. Now, the authorities are planning several measures to manage the crowds so that devotees can offer their prayers more easily.
According to India Today, the Uttarakhand government is working on a five-point plan to ease traffic congestion on roads leading to the temple. The authorities are considering developing alternative routes and creating separate entry and exit routes. The plan also includes building a valley bridge at the Bhimtal-Nainital tri-junction and widening the Bhowali-Kainchi Dham Road. An alternative route is also planned between Kainchi Dham and Hadtappa.
Temple May Introduce Registration For Devotees
According to India Today, a meeting was recently held to discuss congestion at Kainchi Dham and prevent such a situation from happening again. The traffic was creating problems for devotees visiting the temple. It was also affecting commuters travelling to Almora, Pithoragarh and other hill stations.
Apart from alternative routes, the authorities are also planning to prepare a proposal for a parking facility on vacant land belonging to a Forest Department nursery. Moreover, the temple, which currently opens at 6 am, will now open at 4 am to give people more time for darshan and reduce the morning crowds.
Here’s the most important update. According to The Indian Express, the Nainital district administration is set to introduce a registration system for pilgrims visiting Kainchi Dham, modelled on the registration system for the Char Dham Yatra. Currently, there is no registration requirement to visit Kainchi Dham. However, to prevent overcrowding, a registration system may be introduced soon.
