Kalimpong is a serene and picturesque hill station in West Bengal. The place enjoys popularity for its breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga range and pleasant weather all year round. To attract more visitors, the hill station is now planning to launch stargazing tourism to showcase its nocturnal charm.

Kalimpong Plans To Launch Stargazing Tourism

Stargazing tourism, which is also called astrotourism or dark sky tourism, is now becoming quite popular among tourists. People especially travel to remote and low-pollution areas to observe the night sky and gaze at beautiful stars. It is already popular in various parts of the country, such as Ladakh, the Spiti Valley and the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat.

 Now, Kalimpong, a beautiful hill station in West Bengal, is also planning to introduce stargazing tourism to attract more visitors. According to ETV Bharat, officials believe that introducing this new initiative can make the destination more appealing to tourists. To assess the feasibility, officials from the tourism department have already conducted site inspections in the Delo area.

Modern Telescopes, Guides, Astrophotography & More

The Delo Hill, or Deolo Hill, is the highest point in Kalimpong. The night sky here is known for being clear, pristine and ideal for observing celestial bodies and engaging in astronomical studies. According to ETV Bharat, to enhance the overall experience, officials are also planning to install modern high-resolution telescopes in the area. This will provide tourists with a crystal-clear view of the night sky.

Local youth interested in astronomy will receive special training to guide tourists. Moreover, there will be special facilities for astrophotography too. Tourists can capture beautiful pictures of the night sky as well. The initiative is expected to boost tourism, strengthen the local economy and generate employment opportunities.
