Prices For LPG Gas Cylinders Expected To Increase
According to NDTV, some major changes to India’s LPG cylinder booking and delivery system are expected to come into effect. The changes will also affect cylinder prices. Reportedly, three oil marketing companies: Indian Oil Corporation (Indane), Bharat Petroleum (Bharat Gas), and Hindustan Petroleum (HP Gas), are working on new rules. These rules aim to curb hoarding, black marketing, and illegal diversion of subsidised gas.
Now, let’s talk about what changes customers can expect from May 1. The interval between LPG bookings has been increased from 21 days to 25 days in urban areas. On the other hand, people in rural areas may see an interval of 45 days. The updated system will automatically block any booking attempt made before the permitted gap.
There are going to be changes in prices, too. Indian oil companies have raised LPG gas cylinder prices by ₹60 for 14.2 kg domestic cylinders. Commercial 19 kg cylinder prices have also been hiked three times within a short period. Authorities are planning a further revision in prices from May 1.

OTP-Based Delivery Now Mandatory
According to NDTV, under the new rules, authorities have made the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) non-negotiable from May 1. Customers will no longer receive their cylinders by showing a physical blue book or receipt. They will now have to show a delivery authentication code sent to their registered mobile number after booking a refill. This system will be permanent.
Apart from this, the government has made Aadhaar-based biometric authentication mandatory for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). LPG users who have not completed it yet should do it soon. This is required to receive targeted subsidy transfers after seven refills, starting from the eighth refill. Furthermore, the government has advised households to shift from LPG to using piped natural gas wherever it is available.
