Maharashtra residents, get ready for another major infrastructure development. The state government has approved a new metro line that will directly connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports. It’s time to say yes to faster, smoother, and more comfortable travel. Scroll down to know all the details!
New Metro Line Connecting Mumbai And Navi Mumbai Airport
The Maharashtra government has given their approval to a metro line 8, 35-km long corridor that will connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports. As per Hindustan Times, Metro Line 8 will have 20 stations in total. Of the entire route, 9.25 km will be underground, while the remaining 24.64 km will run on elevated tracks. The underground stretch will lie within Mumbai and connect Terminal 2 of CSMIA to Ghatkopar East. This section will include six stations. The elevated stretch will continue towards Navi Mumbai.
To enhance the metro network, the line will also connect with Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) on the Central Railway and link with three other metro routes. The project will cost an estimated ₹22,862 crore and will require 30.7 hectares of land acquisition. In the upcoming three and a half years, this project will be completed and will be available for the public to use.

More About This Project
Unlike most metro projects, Metro Line 8 will use a public-private partnership (PPP) model. What does that mean? According to Hindustan Times, under this structure, the state and central governments will each contribute 20% of the project cost as viability gap funding (VGF). The remaining amount will be invested by the private contractor. The state chose this model to make the project financially viable and to avoid issues faced in the earlier PPP-based Metro Line 1 (Versova–Ghatkopar) project.
Along with Metro Line 8, the cabinet also approved a 66-km Nashik City Ring Road, to be developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). The government also cleared a revised alignment of the Navegaon Mor–Surjagad highway in Gadchiroli district.
