India’s transport scene is evolving fast — from metros to high-speed trains, new systems are changing the way people move. Now, taking it a step further, Maharashtra is set to welcome a futuristic way of travel. The state government has approved India’s first-ever pod-taxi network, which will connect Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mira-Bhayandar. Scroll down for more details.
First Pod Taxi In Maharashtra
The first pod taxi network in Maharashtra has been approved to run between Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mira-Bhayandar. Led by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the pod taxi project expects to make daily travel smoother and reduce traffic in one of India’s busiest urban areas. The approval for this project came after a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, reported Pune Mirror.
The project is under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, meaning private companies will take part in building and running the system. According to MMRDA, the project is already in motion. Till now, feasibility studies have already been completed, and the next step is to invite private firms to submit detailed technical and financial proposals. Once approved, work on the ground is expected to move quickly.

Driverless Mode Of Transport
The pod-taxi system is a modern, driverless mode of transport in Maharashtra. It is often described as a personal rapid transit (PRT) system. It will consist of small, automated pods that run on elevated tracks, carrying passengers directly from one point to another. The best part is that it will not have any other stops in between. Each pod will operate on demand, offering a fast, comfortable, and eco-friendly alternative to conventional transport.
According to Pune Mirror, another benefit of this project is its integration with the metro and road transport networks. Means passengers will be able to switch easily between pod taxis, metro trains, and buses. So, now Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mira-Bhayandar commuters can have a sigh of relief because soon their daily transport is going to change.
