Those flying to Malaysia may soon be granted faster immigration clearance, as the country plans to roll out its updated National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe) at various entry points nationwide from September 2026. Want to know more about it? Scroll down.

Malaysia To Grant Faster Immigration Clearance

As per a report by NDTV, under the new system, immigration inspections are expected to take only four to five seconds per person. This will help officials simplify immigration procedures and reduce delays at airports, especially during peak travel times. Minister of Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, praised Malaysia’s new immigration system and said that the process at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) now takes less than five seconds at the automatic gate.

Taking to his official X account, he wrote, “The implementation of the integrated digital system MyNIISe together with the use of autogates at KLIA is a major step by KDN in strengthening national border management.” The new system uses facial detection technology, QR codes and passport verification to speed up immigration checks while still ensuring security.

Ismail called the upgrade a game-changer and wrote, “This is not just a system upgrade. This is a game-changer in the experience of entering and leaving the country.”

MyNIISe will take over the older MyIMMs system that was used for nearly 20 years at Malaysian airports. The new standard has reportedly been established at a cost of around MYR 1 billion (about USD 255 million).

How Does The New MyNIIS Work?

The new MyNIISe system integrates various technologies into a more integrated digital process. Travellers can now clear immigration using modern technologies like facial recognition technology, QR codes and passport verification.

Instead of depending mainly on passport scans and fingerprint checks, the system rapidly matches a traveller’s face with travel details, and the immigration records are stored digitally.

Additionally, separate lanes have also been introduced for customs checks at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. “Nothing to Declare” lanes are for travellers not carrying taxable or restricted products, while “Goods to Declare” lanes are for passengers carrying items that must be declared to customs officials.
