Traffic jams often test our patience, but imagine being stuck not for hours, but for four whole days! That’s exactly what happened on the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway (NH-19) in Bihar, as hundreds of vehicles on this road were left stranded, turning the busy stretch into a long, endless traffic jam of trucks, cars, and buses. Keep reading for more details.
Four-Day Traffic Jam On The Delhi-Kolkata National Highway
At first, what began as a usual traffic slowdown slowly turned into days of standstill after torrential rains hit Bihar’s Rohtas district last Friday. The rain caused flooding in several parts of the highway. The heavy rainfall led to severe waterlogging in the diversions and service lanes built by the six-lane construction company at multiple points along NH-19. Along with potholes on the road, muddy and slippery surfaces made it difficult for vehicles to move.
The situation became worse when neither the local administration nor the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) took any major steps to clear the route. The traffic congestion started in Rohtas and has now stretched about 65 km to Aurangabad. In talks with NDTV, a truck driver said that he and many others had been stuck in traffic for two days without proper food or water. He added that they were in a miserable condition, as even covering a few kilometres was taking several hours. Another driver mentioned that in the past 30 hours, they had managed to travel only seven kilometres.

Other Damages Caused By Traffic Jam
The four-day-long traffic jam has started to affect businesses and essential services. Truck drivers carrying perishable goods fear massive losses as their shipments are at risk of spoiling in the jam. Ambulances, emergency services, and tourists passing through the highway are also struggling. According to locals, there is still no sign of the route being cleared, reported NDTV. As the situation worsens, it highlights the poor state of road management in India. Moreover, NHAI authorities have not released any statement regarding the issue.
We hope the situation in Bihar comes under control soon.
