Met Gala 2026: Parmesan Gnocchi To Strawberry Pavlova, What Was On The Menu And What Did Celebs Feast On?

The Met Gala 2026 is making headlines, all thanks to stunning red carpet looks. But apart from the looks, the Met Gala is also known for its bold culinary experience. This year, designer Raúl Àvila drew inspiration from Northern Italian gardens to create what amounts to an edible exhibition inside the Temple of Dendur.

The dinner table for the Gala is designed in its own kind of art form. Real fruits like pomegranates, pears, black wine grapes, artichokes, and kumquats make up table centrepieces. But the food itself by Olivier Cheng Catering was inspired by the Northern Italian garden concept, showcasing seasonal springtime ingredients and cuisine from the region to bring the garden to the plate. Cheng and his team divided the menu into three chapters that resemble the decor theme and the exhibition itself. The food is divided into three parts: a first course (the garden), a main course (the statue), and a dessert (the silhouette).

What Was Served At The Met Gala 2026?

Dinner service started with a burrata appetiser with a green tomato salad featuring elderflower, pine, and gooseberries. Talking to Vogue, Cheng explained the idea behind the menu, saying that the garden celebrates growth, seasonality, and freshness and is shaped rather than tamed. Using a tomato water coloured by green herbs, the burrata resembles a green tomato, one of the first tomatoes in a springtime garden.

Followed by the main course, which is a rack of lamb with morel panna cotta, Parmesan gnocchi, asparagus, carrots, spring peas, and mint. Lastly, the dessert is the most directly connected to the exhibition, as it features three distinct dishes. Anna Wintour and Andrew Bolton, the Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, selected these silhouettes.

The first dessert was the raspberry-infusion chocolate with a red velvet cake and a raspberry chocolate crémeux, which was inspired by an Alexander McQueen dress from the designer’s iconic spring 2001 “Voss” collection. The second one was the strawberry pavlova and a passionfruit curd with burgundy amaranth microgreens, inspired by Robert Wun’s coat from spring 2023. The last one was a white chocolate mocha with a cocoa cake and dark chocolate ganache, inspired by Christian Dior’s from the spring 2024 collection.
