Monsoon has not been kind to North India this year. While the early monsoon helped improve the weather conditions in the region, the incessant rains have wreaked havoc across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Himachal Pradesh. From cloudbursts to flash floods, the northern part of the country has experienced it all this season.
Monsoon Wrecks Havoc In North India
According to India Today, the monsoon trough has shifted close to the Himalayan foothills and a Western Disturbance is intensifying rainfall in North India. Normally, when these two weather systems interact, cooler air and added moisture is observed. Currently, this divergence is encouraging cloud formation and heavy precipitation over the region.
Together, they have created a weather pattern that has led to intense rain across the Himalayan belt and adjoining plains. This setup also raises the risk of flooding, landslides, and other rain-related hazards, India Today reported.
In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rains led to the closure of 613 roads. Since the beginning of the season, the state has reported 194 deaths related to the monsoon. Parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Shahjahanpur, Meerut, Prayagraj, and Kanpur, were inundated due to rising water levels of the rivers. Several areas in Bihar are witnessing a rise in Ganga water levels.

Village In Uttarakhand Destroyed In Seconds
While North India is reeling under the devastation of monsoon right now, Uttarakhand has emerged as one of the worst-hit states. According to a Zee News report, National Highway 121 was washed away due to flash floods in Kotdwar, thousands of pilgrims were left stranded after a landslide covered the Badrinath Highway, and houses were flooded in Udham Singh Nagar.
Dharali, a popular stopover on the Gangotri Dham route, was destroyed on Tuesday afternoon in just 34 seconds. As per The New Indian Express, a sudden surge of debris-laden water from the Khirganga River wiped out the entire village. The Harsil and Sukki areas also reported cloudbursts. Teams from SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, and Army are carrying out rescue operations in these areas and have evacuated over 140 people so far.
We hope the monsoon subsides and the weather situation in North India improves soon.
