Mumbai trains

For Mumbaikars, the local train is a lifeline. With traffic jams making it hard to cover even short distances and leaving people stuck for hours, local trains help you reach your destination faster. Now, there’s good news for all local train passengers — the city has received approval for additional suburban train services, a special gift for people in Navi Mumbai. Scroll down for more details.

Mumbai To Get More Local Trains

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to his X handle to share some good news for local train passengers. He announced that the state has received approval for additional suburban train services. Along with the message, CM also shared a letter from the Ministry of Railways confirming the approval and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for supporting the request.

As per the post, the new services will help daily commuters and make travel smoother for those living in fast-growing areas around Navi Mumbai. While sharing this good news, CM Fadnavis wrote on X, “This will significantly benefit commuters and make the daily travel of Mumbaikars much easier.”

10 New Suburban Trains

As per the Railway Board’s notice from December 3, 2025, 10 new suburban trains will start running on the Port Line — four between Nerul and Uran, and six between Belapur and Uran. Another good news is that the Railway Board has approved new train stoppages at Targhar and Gavhan stations. People have been asking for these halts for years, since they mostly depend on road travel for last-mile connectivity.

As per The Free Press Journal, the Ministry has also cleared plans to increase train speeds on the Nerul–Uran and Belapur–Uran sections. Railway officials have been instructed to roll out these upgrades quickly and inform the public in advance. When these new trains will roll out has not been revealed yet.
