If you’ve been to Mumbai or are already living in the city, you must know that there are only a few selected stations from where long-distance trains operate. But soon, the city is set to get another one. Officials are now preparing to open the Jogeshwari Railway Terminus on the Western Railway (WR) network. Read on to know more!
Phase 1 Of Jogeshwari Railway Terminus Nears Completion
The Jogeshwari Railway Terminus has seen years of delays, but now we’ve got an exciting update for you. As per News18, the first phase of this upcoming railway terminus in Mumbai is about to be completed and is set to open for passengers in June 2026.
The project was supposed to be ready by December 2024. But things did not go as planned. Why? Changes in contractors, land-related issues, and administrative delays slowed down the work and pushed the completion date further.

How This Terminus Will Benefit Mumbaikars?
The new railway terminus is being built in Jogeshwari East, near the existing Jogeshwari railway station. Once ready, long-distance trains will be able to start and end their journeys from here. News18 reported that the terminus will also connect easily to the JVLR and nearby Metro routes, making travel more convenient for commuters.
This project aims to reduce pressure on some of Mumbai’s busiest stations like Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri, and Borivali. The long-distance and suburban trains will soon be able start and end their journeys from Jogeshwari,
We’re excited because the upcoming terminus will come with multiple platforms, train parking lines, passenger-friendly facilities, and parking spaces. It will also connect smoothly with road and Metro services.
In the first phase, the terminus will get two passenger platforms. One will be built right next to the station, while the other will be between two railway tracks. This will help the terminus handle up to three long-distance trains at the same time. The second phase will bring more platforms and additional railway facilities to help trains move, park, and operate more smoothly.
According to senior railway officials, the entire project is expected to be completed by March 2027. This terminus is the fourth railway terminus on the Western Railway network in Mumbai, and the total cost is ₹76.48 crore.
