Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is now considering adding one more station to Mumbai Metro Line 2B. The additional station will help improve ridership and boost connectivity between Mandale and Chembur. Here is everything you need to know about this important update.
Mumbai Metro Line 2B To Get One More Station
According to a report by Hindustan Times, MMRDA had received safety clearance to partially operationalise Mumbai Metro Line 2B. This 23.64 km-long metro line is expected to boost east-west connectivity in the city. It is also expected to reduce traffic-related issues on the roads. However, authorities are now planning to add one more station to the cleared stretch between Mandale and Chembur.
The proposed addition is the Chembur Naka Station, which will be the next stop after Diamond Garden. Officials believe that operating only five stations in isolation may result in low passenger numbers. There is also limited connectivity apart from an interchange at Mankhurd railway station.

Entire Line To Be Operational Between 2026-27
According to Hindustan Times, last year, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspected and certified the section between Mandale in Mankhurd and Diamond Garden in Chembur. The section currently has five stations. However, authorities are now planning to extend the operational stretch by commissioning a sixth station.
Moreover, the Mandale-Diamond Garden section would function as a standalone corridor. Commissioning the Chembur Naka Station is expected to improve utilisation of the stretch. It should be noted that Metro Line 2B is part of the Metro 2 corridor, which will eventually have 37 stations. The entire project has been divided into phases due to delays in construction work.
According to a report by Lokmat Times, the first phase of Metro Line 2B is almost complete. The entire line is expected to be operational between 2026 and 2027. Once operational, it will link DN Nagar to Metro Line 1, Bandra Kurla Complex to Metro Line 3, and DN Nagar to Metro Line 2.
