According to the Hindustan Times, the new rail corridors project in the metropolitan region is expected to cost ₹15,000 crore. With the new rail corridors, railway authorities will separate the rail network meant for local trains on the Central Railway (CR). The Railway authorities have already sent the project proposal to the Maharashtra government, requesting two new train lines on the Asangaon-Kasara and Badlapur-Karjat routes.

The railway officials are also looking forward to building a 60-kilometre suburban train line between Panvel and Vasai. The new rail line is part of Phase 3B of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). It aims to improve the public transport in areas like Panvel, Navi Mumbai, Vasai-Virar, and Kalyan.

Central Railway To Install CCTV Cameras

The Central Railway is also planning to install 1,650 CCTV cameras along the railway lines. The Railways took this decision after a passenger on a long-distance train fell after being attacked by the fatka gang on August 3. While talking to Hindustan Times, a railway official mentioned that they will begin installing cameras at seven locations, near Titwala, Ambivli, Shahad, and Vashi stations.

Since January, around 12–15 attacks have been initiated by the fatka gang, especially around these stations. After this, CR will expand the CCTV surveillance by installing hundreds of cameras across its network. Besides these four stations, the other locations that will be under CCTV surveillance are Kurla, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Bhiwandi, and Wadala rail stations. These cameras, while not advanced, will play a crucial role in tracking the activities near the stations.
