Incessant Rains Trigger Landslide In Vikhroli
According to Hindustan Times, incessant rain in Mumbai triggered a landslide in Vikhroli. The landslide claimed two lives and left two injured in Jankalyan Society, Varsha Nagar, Vikhroli Park Site, Vikhroli (W). Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has confirmed this news.
Overnight rainfall and the continued downpour on Saturday have also resulted in flooded streets and submerged railway tracks, adding to commuters’ woes. Central Railway announced delays on both Up and Down lines due to flooding between Kurla and Dadar. At Bandra station, platforms and surrounding areas were seen submerged in water, making it one of the worst-hit locations.
The IMD has forecasted more rain in Mumbai and other areas in Maharashtra. They have issued a red alert for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri. An orange alert for rain and thunderstorms has also been issued for Nashik, Pune, Satara, and Jalgaon. With low-pressure areas forming over the Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall is expected to continue across Maharashtra in the coming days.

Not just roads and railway tracks, air travel is also being affected in Mumbai due to the incessant rains. Airlines like IndiGo and SpiceJet took to their X (formerly Twitter) accounts to announce flight delays to and from Mumbai. SpiceJet’s announcement said, “Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status.”
Many videos and pictures on social media show vehicles left stranded, people walking through knee-deep water, and BMC officials trying to pump out water from inundated areas.
