Just a few days ago, we were still enjoying cool winter vibes, and now summer is already knocking on the door! Mumbai’s weather is turning hotter, with temperatures rising quickly and afternoons becoming quite uncomfortable. Wednesday was especially hot for the city, as the weather temperature crossed normal levels by a big margin. Stay tuned to know more about what’s making the city so warm!
Mumbai Experiences Hot Weather
In Mumbai, on Wednesday, the city felt really hot, with the Santacruz weather station recording a high of 38.7°C. According to The Times of India, that’s about 5.7°C higher than what is normally expected, and yes, it became the hottest day of the year so far.
If we go back just one day, things were much better. The temperature was around 33.7°C, which was only slightly above normal. But this sudden jump in heat made afternoons quite uncomfortable. Many people preferred staying indoors or looking for shade during peak sunlight hours.
At Colaba, the temperature was a bit lower at 35.7°C, but it was still 4.5°C above normal. Since Colaba is surrounded by the sea on three sides, the sea breeze usually helps keep temperatures a little cooler there. That’s why this area often shows lower temperature readings compared to other parts of Mumbai.

Why Heat Is Rising In Mumbai?
Mumbai is feeling the heat, but weather experts say the city hasn’t officially hit a heatwave warning yet. As per The Times of India, for a heatwave to be declared, the temperature needs to stay at 37°C or above for two straight days, and it should also be about 4.5°C higher than normal. Even though it feels very hot outside, the weather hasn’t fully crossed these technical limits.
Experts say the heat is rising because of changing wind patterns. Dry north-easterly winds from inland areas are coming into the city, while the cool sea breeze is getting delayed. This mix is making the air feel hotter and a bit more humid; basically, the city is feeling like a hot, sweaty afternoon even indoors.
Weather experts also think this hot weather may continue for a few more days. They also said Mumbai sometimes shows slightly lower temperature readings because one weather station is located near the sea, where temperatures naturally stay a bit cooler.
We hope the hot weather in Mumbai gets under control soon!
