Mumbai-Solapur Vande Bharat Derails At Pune Station; No Injuries Reported

In what could have been a major mishap, a coach of a Vande Bharat train derailed while entering Pune railway station on Monday evening. The trolley of the fourth coach of the Mumbai CSMT-Solapur Vande Bharat train came off the tracks at a diamond crossing. Thankfully, all passengers were safe.

Coach Of CSMT-Solapur Vande Bharat Derails At Pune Station

According to The Indian Express, Train No. 22225, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-Solapur Vande Bharat Express, was about to enter Pune railway station at Platform 3 when the front trolley of coach C-15 derailed at a diamond crossing, where two tracks intersect at the same level, inside the station yard. Notably, this is the first reported derailment of a Vande Bharat train since its introduction in 2019.

The incident occurred around 7:30 PM as the premium AC train was passing over the crossing near the platform. Railway officials said one of the wheels of the coach came off the track at the crossing, adding that the crossing is being replaced as a priority.

All Passengers Deboard Train Safely

According to The Times of India, the crossing where the Vande Bharat train derailed in Pune is slated for an upgrade as part of ongoing yard remodelling at the station. A railway official also told the publication that non-standard diamond crossings are being phased out as part of safety measures.

Fortunately, no passengers were injured in the incident. Visuals circulating online showed passengers disembarking with their luggage and walking towards the nearest railway platform.

However, the incident disrupted rail traffic and delayed several trains heading to Pune, adding to passenger inconvenience.
