2 Local Trains Come Face-To-Face On At CSMT In Mumbai
According to Hindustan Times, two suburban local trains came face-to-face on the same track at Mumbai’s CSMT on Tuesday around 3:18 PM. A Badlapur-CSMT fast local was reportedly routed to platform 5 instead of platform 4, which was vacant. Another train was already stationed on platform 5 at the time.
Thanks to the alertness and quick response of the motorman, who spotted the train ahead and applied brakes in time, the situation was brought under control. The train stopped about 100-130 metres before the stationary local, preventing a major accident.
The incident disrupted services between platforms 5 and 8 for about 20-25 minutes, leading to train bunching and overcrowding. During the disruption, some commuters also spilled onto the tracks. As per the latest update, the station master responsible for the incorrect routing has been suspended pending an inquiry.
The HT report noted that this was one of the most serious operational lapses on Mumbai’s suburban rail network in recent years. In comparison, a head-on collision near Andheri railway station in June 2012 had left 10 people injured.
