Mumbaikars, we come bearing good news! A roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry service connecting Mumbai and Vijaydurg is set to begin on March 1. The service is expected to significantly reduce travel time for those heading from Mumbai to the Konkan region in Sindhudurg district. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Mumbai-Vijaydurg Ro-Ro Ferry To Set Sail On March 1

According to Hindustan Times, ahead of the summer tourist rush and the Holi travel season, the Maharashtra Ports Department has announced the launch of a Ro-Ro ferry service between Mumbai and Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg district, boosting coastal connectivity.

The Mumbai-Vijaydurg Ro-Ro service was earlier scheduled to begin on September 1 last year but was postponed due to low public response. The high-speed vessel M2M Princess will now operate on the route, reducing travel time to around seven hours from over 10 hours by road.

Passengers can board the ferry with their two-wheelers and four-wheelers at Ferry Wharf (Bhaucha Dhakka) and disembark at Vijaydurg. The service is also expected to ease traffic on the Mumbai–Goa highway.

Schedule, Fare & All About It

During its pilot month, the Mumbai–Vijaydurg Ro-Ro ferry service will operate on 16 days in March, with eight departures each from Mumbai and Vijaydurg. The inaugural journey on March 1 will depart from Mumbai at 8 AM and arrive in Vijaydurg at 3 PM. The return trip will leave Vijaydurg at 12 PM on March 2 and reach Mumbai by 7 PM.

According to Times Now, departures from Mumbai are scheduled on March 1, 4, 7, 11, 14, 18, 21 and 25. Return sailings from Vijaydurg will take place on March 2, 5, 8, 12, 15, 19, 22 and 26.

Coming to the fares, an Economy class ticket is priced at ₹2,500, while Premium Economy costs ₹4,000. Passengers travelling with vehicles will need to pay ₹600 for bicycles, ₹1,000 for two-wheelers and ₹6,000 for four-wheelers.
