Summer has arrived, and Mumbai has already started experiencing the heat. The weather is so hot for the next few days that it’s difficult for the residents to come out. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the city may experience heatwave conditions for the next few days. Scroll down to know more!
Severe Hot Weather In Mumbai
According to the IMD, some isolated areas in Mumbai experienced severe heatwave conditions on Monday, March 9. And honestly, the heat was intense enough for people across the city to feel it. According to Mid-Day, the weather department has also predicted heatwave conditions for Tuesday, March 10. It means the hot weather isn’t going away just yet. Several areas in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) may also experience similar conditions, including Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri.
One major reason behind the uncomfortable weather was the very low wind speed, which was around 7.4 kmph in the afternoon. With such slow winds, the air does not move much, so there is barely any breeze to offer relief. And when there is no breeze, the heat starts to feel even more intense.
Adding to this was the low humidity level, which stayed between 18 per cent and 34 per cent throughout the day. Because of the combination of slow winds and low humidity, the heat felt much stronger outdoors. Many residents found it difficult to step outside during the afternoon, as the weather felt unusually harsh for this time of the year.
