Nashik Kumbh: Which Key Pilgrimage Sites Can You Visit On A Helicopter? All Deets Here!

The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela is all set to begin with ceremonial flag hoisting in October 2026, and road traffic in Nashik is expected to surge during the peak bathing days of this mela. To manage the crowd, officials are planning helicopter services as a faster and more efficient alternative for pilgrims. Here’s what you need to know.

Helicopter Services Planned For Nashik Kumbh

Millions of devotees will gather for holy baths at the upcoming Nashik Kumbh Mela. According to Hindustan Times, the Kumbh Mela is scheduled in Nashik from October 2026 to July 2028. Maharashtra is expected to see 90-100 lakh devotees during key rituals such as the Shahi Snan, Amrut Snan, and Nagar Pradakshina over this 20-month-long period. Naturally, the roads will see heavy traffic as well.

To manage this, the Maharashtra government is planning a helicopter tourism circuit linking key pilgrimage destinations across western Maharashtra and Marathwada. This circuit aims to decongest roads and enhance the pilgrim experience.

Heli-Circuit To Connect  Key Pilgrimage Sites

According to Hindustan Times, the government is taking a cue from similar initiatives implemented during the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. They have proposed a heli-circuit connecting sites such as the Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi, Grishneshwar Temple, and the Ajanta–Ellora Caves in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, along with the Bhimashankar Temple in Pune district.

Reportedly, the state and the central government are together investing over ₹15,000 crore in infrastructure, logistics, and promotional activities for this mega event. Meanwhile, the tourism department will focus on visitor engagement and leverage the Nashik Kumbh Mela to boost the state’s economy.

Additionally, district administrations have been asked to ensure the availability of helipads near pilgrimage sites to minimise travel time. These helicopter services will be operated by private agencies. Prices and shuttle operations will soon be finalised through a bidding process.
