Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation has planned a 58-km Light Metro network in Nashik at an estimated cost of ₹14,520 crore. The proposal is part of the city’s draft Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) and is intended to create a long-term mass rapid transit system to meet Nashik’s growing population and transportation needs over the next two decades. Nashik To Get 58-Km Light Metro Network
As per a report by Metrorailnews, the proposed network will consist of three corridors, which will be constructed in two phases. Maha Metro will take a final decision after conducting feasibility studies, consulting stakeholders and incorporating feedback on the draft mobility plan.
The first phase will feature two corridors spanning around 35 km. The 21.5-km Gangapur Village-Nashik Road corridor has been identified as the first route that could be taken up, with a target completion year of 2031. It is projected to cost around ₹8,770 crore.
The second Phase I corridor will run for 13.58 km between Mumbai Naka and Pathardi Phata. The CMP has set 2036 as the target year for its implementation. Maha Metro anticipates that each of the two Phase I corridors could handle nearly 11,000 passengers per hour during peak periods.

The second phase will add a 23-km corridor between Ambad and Nashik Airport. Estimated to cost ₹5,750 crore, the route has a target implementation year of 2046. The proposed airport connection could improve access to the city’s aviation hub and support development in surrounding areas.
Maha Metro has shared the draft CMP with stakeholders and invited suggestions. The officials are currently examining the feedback and updating the plan, which is expected to be submitted to the Maharashtra CM in September for approval.
What Happened To Nashik’s Previous Neo Metro Plan?
The Light Metro proposal follows a fresh assessment of Nashik’s public transport requirements. The city had earlier been considered for a Neo Metro project, which was announced back in 2021-22. With an allocation of ₹2,092 crore. However, the proposal was subsequently dropped.
In April 2025, officials were asked to examine public transport models used in other cities instead of continuing with the earlier Neo Metro plan. Maha Metro subsequently conducted a new mobility survey to reassess Nashik’s future transportation requirements.
