Nitin Gadkari has made an important announcement. The government has decided to construct a new Green Express Highway that will reduce the distance between Delhi and Chennai by 320 km. What’s more? The highway will also bring down the travel time between Delhi and Mumbai to just 12 hours. Here’s everything we know about this project so far.
Green Express Highway To Improve Delhi-Chennai Connectivity
Travelling to Chennai or Mumbai is all set to get easier. A new Green Express Highway between Surat and Kurnool is being planned that will significantly reduce the distance between Delhi and Chennai by 320 km. According to Hindustan Times, the announcement was recently made by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
After the highway is constructed, the time taken to travel between Delhi and Mumbai will also be reduced to within 12 hours. Reportedly, the highway will not only make it easier to travel between these cities but is also expected to boost logistics efficiency. According to The Financial Express, the proposed route will run from Surat in Gujarat to Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. It will form a part of the broader highway network that connects major cities across India.

Highway Will Connect Several Major Cities
According to The Financial Express, the Green Express Highway will connect Surat, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Solapur and Kurnool. From there, it will also connect Chennai, Kanyakumari, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi. This highway, which is now in the plans, will definitely improve connectivity between North India and South India.
Moreover, the highway will also enhance connectivity across several important economic and transport hubs. It will make the movement of goods and passengers easier between different regions. Authorities also expect the highway to ease traffic congestion in key corridors, including areas around Pune and Kolhapur, which already see heavy traffic due to long-distance freight and passenger movement between northern and southern India.
