Across India, many people are worried about fuel supplies because of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. With questions rising about petrol, diesel, and LPG availability, here’s what Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said about the situation.
India Is Not Facing Any LPG Shortage
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, spoke in the Lok Sabha to address these concerns directly. He assured that India is not facing any shortage of fuel. Petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, kerosene, and fuel oil are all available, and supplies remain stable.
As per MSN, the panic around LPG is mostly due to anxiety among consumers rather than an actual shortage, the minister explained. He said the supply chains are working smoothly. Authorities are also activating alternate fuel sources to ease any pressure on LPG distribution.
Before the crisis, India imported around 45% of its crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz. Puri highlighted that thanks to India’s strategy of diversified energy sourcing, the country now secures more crude than what the Strait of Hormuz could have delivered during the same period.

LPG Production Has Increased
LPG supply has also been strengthened. Earlier, India depended on Gulf countries like Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait for about 60% of its LPG, with the rest produced domestically. Now, the government has expanded procurement to include the US, Norway, Canada, Algeria, and Russia, in addition to Gulf sources.
MSN reported that to further ensure supply, LPG production has increased by 28% over the last five days under refinery directives. The government is also actively securing more cargoes. Puri emphasised that the government’s top priority is keeping kitchens running for India’s 33+ crore families, especially the poor and underprivileged.
Delivery schedules have not changed. Domestic LPG cylinders are still delivered in about 2.5 days from booking, the same as before the crisis. Hospitals and schools are given uninterrupted priority supply, ensuring they get LPG regardless of demand pressures.
