Indian Railways Introduces New Shared Season Ticket Facility

A season ticket by Indian Railways is a prepaid travel pass that lets regular commuters make multiple unreserved journeys between two specific stations for a fixed period. These tickets eliminate the need to buy single tickets every time, which saves a lot of time and effort.

Indian Railways has now introduced a new rule to book these tickets. According to The Indian Express, Indian Railways has introduced a new shared season ticket facility on the RailOne app.

Under this, a registered user will be able to book season tickets not only for themselves but also for up to five other people, including family members. The new facility, which came into effect on September 9, 2026, aims to make travel more convenient for passengers.

Know The Eligibility & Other Rules For Season Tickets

According to The Indian Express, the minimum age for booking a season ticket for oneself is 18 years. When booking a ticket for another passenger, the person should be at least five years old. You should know that season tickets can be booked for both suburban and non-suburban sections. These tickets can be issued for journeys covering a maximum distance of 150 km. However, people with season tickets cannot travel in reserved coaches or on trains with distance-based travel restrictions.

This new facility will be available to both passengers and students. During travel, either a printed copy of the shared season ticket or its PDF version displayed on a mobile phone will be accepted. The ticket will feature the passenger’s photograph and a QR code. Ticket-checking staff can scan this code and verify the ticket easily.

So, if you are booking a season ticket, make sure you show it, as a booking receipt or invoice will not be accepted.
