In Mumbai, the metro has been a game-changer, with many commuters, especially office-goers, using it daily. To improve connectivity, authorities are continuously introducing new metro lines. Now, Mumbai Metro Line 2B and Line 9 have opened, and they have received a contrasting response from commuters. Read on to know more!
What Response Did Mumbai Metro Line 9 Receive?
The new Mumbai Metro Line 9 runs between Kashigaon and Dahisar. Interestingly, this metro line received a great response on the first day. Why? Commuters realised its benefits! It connects with Line 7 up to Gundavali. According to Mid Dy, many passengers said the new route is already saving them 15 to 20 minutes every day.
The happiest are the Mira Road and Bhayandar residents. They were frustrated with the heavy traffic near the Dahisar check naka. Now, they can board the metro directly from Kashigaon and reach areas like Andheri with ease.
Another daily traveller mentioned that he had earlier spent around 45 minutes just getting to Andheri via Bhayandar station. With the metro, he now reaches Kashigaon in 10 to 15 minutes and continues his journey comfortably. Students also pointed out that the metro is cheaper compared to autorickshaws. The metro charges around ₹60 for similar distances.

How Many People Used Metro Line 2B On First Day?
On one side where Metro Line 9 received great response, line 2B was complete opposite. It runs between Mandale and Diamond Garden in Chembur. As per Mid Day, by 4:30 pm, only about 250 people had used the service since morning. Many commuters said the line is not very useful yet because it does not connect to major business hubs or important interchange points. Once Line 2B extends to key areas like Kurla, Bandra, and Andheri, it could become an important east-west route.
Mumbai Metro Line 9 is a 13.581 km corridor, expected to cut travel time by up to 50–75% and offer smooth links to Western Express Highway, Western Railway, and Metro Lines 2A and 7. Mumbai Metro Line 2B is a 23.643 km route connecting DN Nagar to Mandale, linking eastern and western suburbs. It will improve daily commutes and provide interconnectivity with Metro Lines 2A, 4, and 3.
