Onam 2026: Indian Railways Announces 112 Special Trains; KSRTC To Run Extra Buses

As the festival arrives, many people plan their travel rushing for train bookings, bus, and more. Now, soon Onam is arriving ans the excitement is already in the air. To meet the growing travel demands during this time, the Indian Railways has introduced special trains. Moreover, more buses have also been introduced. Read to know!

Indian Railways Announces Special Trains For Onam

For Onam, Indian Railways has announced plans to operate 112 special trains, nearly twice the number operated last year. In 2025, the Railways operated 55 special train trips during Onam. As per NDTV, this year, that number has increased to 112, marking an increase of around 103% in special services.

The special services will operate from August 14 to September 6 and will connect Kerala with several major cities across the country. Of the 112 services, the Southern Railway will operate 54. These special trains will connect Kerala with Chennai, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi, Hyderabad and Santragachi. Within Kerala, the services will cover destinations such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kannur. Some trains will also connect with Mangaluru.

KSRTC To Run New Buses

During Onam, people in Kerala travel more, so KSRTC has decided to run additional buses between Kerala and Bengaluru. NDTV reported that KSRTC will operate 90 additional buses to Kerala from August 21 to 25. These buses will run alongside the regular services.

According to Public TV, even after the festival is over, KSRTC will also operate special buses from different parts of Kerala to Bengaluru on August 30. In Bengaluru, these special buses will operate from Mysuru Road Bus Station and Shanthinagar Bus Station (BMTC).

The special buses will run to places including Kannur, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Thrissur, Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram. Moreover, passengers travelling on premier special buses will have to board at Shanthinagar Bus Station in Bengaluru.
