Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Grand International Exposition of Sacred Piprahwa Relics at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex in Delhi on January 3 at 11 AM. The exhibition is titled “The Light & the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One.” Announcing the event on the social media platform, PM Modi called it special for people who value history, culture, and the teachings of Bhagwan Buddha.

As per the Free Press Journal, the exhibition showcases the Piprahwa relics, which were discovered in 1898. These relics hold an important place in the study of early Buddhism. According to archaeologists, they are among the oldest and most significant relics linked to Bhagwan Buddha. Evidence connects the Piprahwa site to ancient Kapilavastu, believed to be the place where Gautam Buddha spent his early life before renouncing worldly life.

One of the main highlights of the exhibition is the Piprahwa relics that have returned to India after more than 100 years. According to The Free Press Journal, along with these, visitors can also see original relics and archaeological objects from the National Museum in Delhi and the Indian Museum in Kolkata.

The exhibition is designed around different themes. At the centre is a model inspired by the Sanchi Stupa. Other sections take visitors through key moments of Buddha’s life, the rediscovery of Piprahwa, and the growth of Buddhist art. Some sections also show the spread of Buddhism across countries, and India’s ongoing efforts to bring back its cultural treasures.

To make the experience more engaging, the organisers have used audio-visual elements. These include films, digital displays, projections, and multimedia presentations. Together, they help visitors easily understand Buddha’s journey, the story behind the relics, and the art inspired by his teachings.
