And for this, they have launched a new initiative called @IRFactCheck. It’s an official social media handle created to limit the spreading of misinformation, reported the Times of India.

Through this platform, the Ministry of Railways actively corrects false claims and shares verified updates about railway services. The new launch is a positive step towards stopping the spread of misleading content online. Now, passengers can also tag the handle whenever they find misleading or incorrect information related to Indian Railways. Good news is that the ministry now operates 24/7. They will work tirelessly on social media monitoring system to quickly detect and address false content circulating online. To ensure a smooth journey, travellers should rely only on official communication channels. With this, they can be updated on accurate, real-time updates on train services and station conditions.

Legal Actions Against False Information

Stay alert! As per The Times of India, under the Railway Act, spreading misleading information that affects public order can lead to legal trouble. This legal step is meant to protect the railway’s reputation and prevent panic among passengers. According to ANI, the railway department has already filed FIRs against more than 20 social media accounts found sharing false or outdated videos showing crowded stations or train delays. Officials said such misleading clips could unnecessarily scare passengers and disturb the smooth running of railway services.
