Projects Worth ₹5290 Crore Under Ramayana & Buddhist Circuit In UP Now Physically Complete

This is an important update from UP. All tourism infrastructure projects sanctioned under the Ramayana and Buddhist circuits of the government’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme in Uttar Pradesh are now physically complete. Here is everything we know about the project so far.

Projects Under Ramayana & Buddhist Circuit In UP Now Physically Complete

According to a report by DD News, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat made a major announcement recently. The Tourism Ministry has sanctioned 76 projects worth ₹5,290 crore across the country since the launch of the Swadesh Darshan Scheme in 2014-15. These projects focused on different thematic tourism circuits.

Several projects were included under the Ramayana and Buddhist circuits. The aim was to improve tourism infrastructure. In Uttar Pradesh, key heritage destinations such as Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Shringverpur, Sravasti, Kushinagar and Kapilvastu were covered. These projects are now complete under the scheme.

More Projects Across Uttar Pradesh

According to DD News, Uttar Pradesh also implemented multiple projects under the spiritual and heritage circuits. These initiatives aimed to strengthen the state’s position as a major religious and cultural tourism hub. Between 2016-17 and 2018-19, projects were taken up in districts such as Gorakhpur, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Aligarh, Meerut and Noida. These were part of the broader effort to develop spiritual tourism routes in the state. Moreover, the government has also approved tourism projects under the Special Assistance To States For Capital Investment (SASCI), aimed at global promotion of the sites.

Tourism infrastructure development is mainly the responsibility of state governments and Union Territory administrations. Meanwhile, the central government supports these efforts through schemes like Swadesh Darshan and SASCI. These circuits are not just good for the economy but also recognise the cultural importance of landmarks in the state.
