Pune Metro Line 3 is an upcoming 23.3-km, fully elevated metro corridor with 23 stations. It will connect Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar in the city centre. Now, the good news is that from day one, the ticketing system of this metro line will be very convenient for commuters. Here’s how.

Pune Metro Line 3 To Support Multiple Ticketing Options

The Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd (PITCMRL) has made an important announcement. The ticketing system of Pune Metro Line 3 will support the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), mobile app-based ticketing, WhatsApp QR tickets, Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) and manual ticket counters. According to The Indian Express, NCMC cards will be issued only at station counters after passenger services officially begin.

Currently, the much-awaited Metro Line 3 is awaiting clearance from the Commissioner of Railway Safety. Once the approval is received, services will begin on the first 12 stations, from Maan in Hinjawadi to the R. K. Laxman Museum station in Baner. Reportedly, the remaining 11 stations are expected to become operational over the next few months.

Automatic Fare Collection System At Metro Stations

According to The Indian Express, the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system has already been installed at all 12 stations in the first phase. Each station will have five AFC gates: two for entry, two for exit and one wider gate for persons with disabilities. The system has been designed to manage overcrowding during peak hours and reduce congestion at metro stations.

The Metro Line 3 corridor will also offer ticket booking through the Pune Metro mobile application. Initially, passengers will have separate booking options for Metro Lines 1, 2 and 3. However, the app may soon allow end-to-end journey planning across the integrated Pune Metro network. Metro Line 3 will also support multiple payment options, including cash, UPI, debit cards and other digital payment modes.
