Rajasthan Flood: 2 Dead & Hundreds Evacuated; NDRF And SDRF Carry Out Rescue Operations

This year, the monsoon has not been kind to India. From Himachal Pradesh to Maharashtra, incessant rainfall has caused damage in various regions. Today, heavy rainfall in Rajasthan led to severe flooding, disrupting normal life. Incessant rainfall has damaged roads, disrupted travel, and cut off road access in several areas. Two women have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, while hundreds of people have been moved to safer places. Read on to know more.

Two Women Dead Due To Floods In Rajasthan

As per India Today, IMD issued a high rainfall alert for various districts of Rajasthan. Eight districts in the state have experienced a flood-like situation. The worst-affected areas are Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, and Bundi. A weather department reported that on Saturday, Bundi’s Nainwa experienced the highest rainfall of 502 mm within 24 hours.

In this tough situation, two women lost their lives to rain-related incidents. In Bundi, a 50-year-old woman was swept away by strong flood. On the other hand, a 65-year-old woman died when a wall fell on her at a farm. The situation in these regions is worsening continuously due to the daily rainfall. The authorities have called the Army, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). For relief work, the Indian Air Force is kept on standby, and one Mi-17 helicopter is already helping.

Rescue Operations Underway In Rajasthan

In Sawai Madhopur district, heavy rainfall and the subsequent overflow of the Surwal Dam have triggered a flood situation. Over 30+ villages are underwater and disconnected from the main city. Moreover, one lakh people are affected because of the flood’s direct impact on their homes, livelihood, and daily lives. Rescue teams are already on the go to help people in these areas. In Sawai Madhopur, the Army, NDRF, and SDRF are working together to relocate people to safe locations.

In Bundi, the Army is taking control of the rescue operations in the worst-affected areas like Nainwa, Kapren, and Keshoraipatan. During the rescue operation, a tractor carrying rescue workers and villagers toppled into a pit. This incident caused minor injuries to SDRF members. The rainfall in Rajasthan is not expected to stop soon. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the coming days in various parts of the states.
