Sikkim Launches India’s First Himalayan Speciality Coffee
Established through a public-private collaboration, the initiative seeks to build a world-class speciality coffee industry while offering new livelihood opportunities for local farmers. According to India Today, the state government stated that the project was inaugurated on June 24 at the KVK Hall in Mangan by Sikkim’s Minister for Forest, Environment and Wildlife. The initiative is a partnership between the Department of Horticulture, Government of Sikkim; AgrImpact Ventures (California); its Indian ally SocioLadder Group; and the Coffee Board of India.
The partnership seeks to create an end-to-end speciality coffee ecosystem in North Sikkim, which includes everything from high-altitude nurseries and farmer training to processing, branding and international market access. The long-term goal is to establish Sikkim Organic as one of the world’s leading high-quality coffee brands.

The officials also informed the portal that they believe North Sikkim’s cool climate, high-altitude terrain and organically rich soil provide an ideal environment for cultivating speciality coffee with unique flavour profiles. The new coffee plantations will add to the region’s existing production of Sikkim Mandarin and big cardamom, helping expand the local agricultural economy.
Project Aims To Boost Farmers’ Income And Global Reach
The initiative is based on an Agricultural Impact District framework that brings together farmers, government agencies, private investors and market companions to promote sustainable rural development. While the Sikkim government will deliver policy support, land access and corporate coordination, AgrImpact Ventures and SocioLadder Group will provide technical expertise, investment support and international business linkages.
