Recently, a social media post has gone viral where a creator has shared her first-time visit to Hampi. The traveller has shared her observations about languages, foods, and her overall experience at the historic site. Read on to find out more about the traveller’s experience.
Creator’s Hampi Travel Post Sparks Debate
The post has received a sharp online debate with mixed views and opinions all across India. The discussion began after an X user, Dhimahi Jain, shared her observation from visiting Hampi in Karnataka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hampi, also a former capital city of the Vijayanagara Empire, is known for its historic and iconic landscape. Describing her experience as a first-time visitor, she wrote, “Recently, I visited Hampi, Karnataka. A few observations from a first-time visitor’s POV – people out there really talk in highly encrypted language. Zero chance of understanding what other people are talking about.”

She also said the language makes the communication super difficult. She also said that most tourist attractions close by 6 pm, so nightlife is very limited. “Hampi is all about architecture and history. Every tourist spot shuts down at 6 pm. Basically no nightlife”, she added. Further, she called out the food options there and stated that getting pure vegetarian food is tough. She wrote, “Regarding food, being purely vegetarian is tough. Most of the cafe serve both veg and non veg together.” Her last remark, which created a lot of noise, was that South Indian cuisine tastes better in North India.
How Did Social Media React To It?
As soon as she posted this on her X account, the post quickly gained widespread attention, with people reacting to it from all across India. While some called out for her food remarks, writing, “‘South Indian food tastes better in North India.’ What a joke! Have food in the right place, madam, and stop making such horrendous statements.”
Another wrote, “First point – their language pronunciation is slightly different. Even people from other parts of Karnataka find it difficult to understand. Why restaurants serve both veg & non-veg is because there are plenty of foreign tourists in the region. Last but not least, deciding that South Indian food tastes better in North by visiting only 1 city in South is not a fair comparison”.
Others also talked about why there’s no nightlife in Hampi; one user wrote, “Hampi is not Mumbai or Vegas. Every place has its own culture, food tastes and limitations.”
Another wrote, “You went to see a historic place… To have nightlife, it’s not a beach or IT hub with bars and restaurants… When you don’t know any language, it feels like an encrypted language only. We all know how your hometown’s nightlife will be! Come enjoy historic Kannada land and go back!
