Starting Your Day With Chai & Biscuits? Mumbai Surgeon Calls This A Bad Idea: Here’s Why!

chai and biscuits

We Indians love our morning tea or chai. And yes, some biscuits to go with it. Our eyes basically refuse to open without these two, right? But now a Mumbai surgeon has said that having chai and biscuits on an empty stomach might be harming your gut. This may come as a shocker, but it’s true. Here’s why.

Chai And Biscuits Might Not Be Good For Your Gut

Waking up and sipping on a cup of garam chai with sugary biscuits feels like a basic need for many of us. We can’t really start our day without it, right? But now Dr Manan Vora has highlighted how harmful this habit can be for our stomach and gut health. According to him, having this combination on an empty stomach can create gut issues.

Tea contains caffeine and tannins, which can irritate the stomach lining. Not just that, these can also increase acid production in the stomach, which may lead to digestive problems. The worst part? Drinking tea on an empty stomach can cause nausea, bloating and a feeling of heaviness. All of this can easily ruin your morning.

Biscuits Are Empty Calories

According to Dr Manan Vora, biscuits are mostly empty calories. They are made with refined flour, added sugar and unhealthy fats. These are quick carbs and can lead to a sudden spike in blood sugar levels. You may feel satisfied for some time, but the sugar spike is usually followed by an energy crash. This can leave you feeling drained and lead to more cravings. That is why we often end up reaching for more unhealthy snacks later in the day.

But don’t worry. This does not mean you have to quit chai altogether. You just need to change the timing and the pairing. According to the doctor, you can drink chai after a light breakfast. Instead of biscuits, pair it with protein- or fibre-rich foods like chilla, makhana and other healthy snacks.
